Noble Prize for Curing Depression... well done dear friend!
Last night a friend came round and suggested that all mental health issues can be fixed by eating raw food. I felt quite angry about such a patronising piece of advice. I agreed with her that diet IS important.
I asked her why some people I know eat complete junk but a very happy go lucky people. Like any 'new age' bullshitter she made excuses for these 'exceptions'. I advised her to write to Time Magazine and tell them the great news that she has found a cure for all mental health, I said that maybe she could win the Nobel Prize while also appearing on the front of Time Magazine.
I told her also that in the last twenty years of depression and anxiety I've had lots of people tell me their 'cures'. A lot of people believe that just because a method 'works' for them and their bosses wife that it will work for everyone (talk about a lack of critical thinking!).
She also said that the brain was simple as it was made of simple chemicals. Really!? I said that some people considered the brain to be the most complex 'machine' in the entire universe. She denied this. I really hate it when uneducated new age bullshitters go around claiming cures for everything. Another friend reckoned that raw food could cure cancer. No doubt diet has some effect, however this 'magic pill' delusion is not only patronising it is also delusional and dangerous.
She really thinks of herself as a 'guru' in regards to these sorts of things. When in fact she is completely deluded and on an ego trip. This comes from a person that takes 'meow cat' or whatever that drug is. Apparently this is ok for her to take because she takes shark oil tablets or some bullshit. Enough is enough, I feel this friendship is over. If you're reading this ex-friend then that's what I think of you. You are full of patronising egotistical delusional bullshit. There I've said it!
